Looking at the presentation we went through in one of our lectures this semester I decided to look into the bit depth of my camera, the images produced are a bit depth of 24 so, here’s the math!

24-bit Files.  2 24    (2 to the power 24)  16,777,216 Levels

(2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 = 16,777,216)

16,777,216 x 16,777,216 x 16,777,216 = 4.722366482869645e+21

which is four quadrillion, seven hundred and twenty two trillion colours that can be detected! that’s a big number!

4 Quadrillion colours.  (3 layers of 16,777,216 colours in each layer.)
